As I start this email, I am acutely aware that I am writing perhaps the most important fundraising appeal Greenpeace has ever made.

For over 30 years, the Rainbow Warrior has been defending our natural environment. She's been rammed, boarded, impounded and shot at.

But now I have to tell you that the present Rainbow Warrior is nearing the end of her life. And we need you to help us reach our fundraising target so that we can build a new Rainbow Warrior that can go on making waves.

The Rainbow Warrior, along with her predecessor, has been the heart and soul of Greenpeace for over 30 years. She has exposed the companies trashing rainforests and destroying orang-utan and tiger habitats, for palm oil. She has changed our world for the better. But now she has had her day and urgently needs to be replaced.

In Greenpeace we believe passionately that the Rainbow Warrior is too important to lose. That is why we have made a huge act of faith to commission a replacement – a green, purpose-built vessel that will sail the oceans making waves, bearing witness, promoting solutions, engaging the public and taking part in creative, non-violent actions.

Today I want to ask you to give what you can to help us raise the money we need.

By building this ship, we will be giving our children and grandchildren a powerful tool to help them defend the world they live in.
